In cement mortar, Highly Active Metakaolin (also known as Metakao) is an important Admixture that enhances the performance of the mortar. Metakaolin is a naturally occurring clay mineral that has been specially treated to have a higher specific surface area and reactivity, which allows it to serve multiple functions in cement mortar:
1. Improved Workability: Metakaolin can increase the fluidity of the cementitious paste, making it easier to pour and level, which is particularly important for Self Leveling Mortars that require good flowability even at thicknesses of just a few millimeters.
2. Enhanced Stability: In Self Leveling Cement Mortar, Metakaolin contributes to the stability of the paste, reducing segregation, layering, and bleeding, thereby ensuring the surface condition and durability of the material after setting.
3. Increased Bond Strength: Metakaolin can improve the bond strength between the cement mortar and the substrate, reducing the occurrence of hollowing and delamination, which is crucial for durability.
4. Adjusted Setting Time: Metakaolin can influence the setting time of the mortar by affecting the hydration rate of the cement, which has implications for workability and the final hardened properties.
5. Improved Early Strength: In some formulations, #Metakaolin can act as an accelerator, enhancing the early strength of the cement mortar and thus speeding up the construction process.
6. Enhanced Durability: The inclusion of Metakaolin can improve the durability of cement mortar, including its resistance to permeation, freeze-thaw cycles, and aggressive environments.
7. Reduced Shrinkage: By having the ability to supplement shrinkage, Metakaolin helps to reduce the drying shrinkage of cement mortar, thereby minimizing the formation of cracks.
The product can effectively maintain a good hexagonal sheet structure during the calcination process. It can also form a good porosity, filling the gaps between cement mortar particles and reducing porosity. Additionally, it exhibits high pozzolanic activity, strong adsorption, and a high specific surface area. In addition, it can significantly increase the fluidity of cement mortar, improve the flexural and compressive strength of concrete, enhance permeability resistance, reduce the efflorescence of caustic soda, and improve resistance to chemical erosion. It also enhances the durability of concrete and effectively improves bond strength and compressive strength, thereby enhancing the overall product performance and reducing the enterprise's actual costs.
