N,N-Dimethylamino-2-mercaptoacetate sodium (SDD) is an efficient heavy metal chelating agent. It can react chemically with various heavy metal ions in wastewater and waste residues under certain conditions, quickly forming insoluble, low-water content, and easy-to-filter flocs. Therefore, it can achieve the purpose of removing heavy metal ions. Due to its excellent heavy metal chelating properties, it is widely used in industries such as garbage fly ash treatment and electroplating wastewater treatment.
1. Advantages:
(1) The main raw materials for producing SDD are dimethylamine, carbon disulfide, and liquid alkali. The production cost is low, and the effect of capturing heavy metal ions is significant. It is an inexpensive fly ash and wastewater treatment agent.
(2) SDD is non-toxic to the environment and will not produce toxic and harmful substances such as hydrogen sulfide during use, nor will it increase wastewater COD. The chelates of SDD and heavy metal ions are not easily decomposed and will not cause secondary pollution. Therefore, SDD is a truly environmentally friendly chemical agent.
2. Applications:
(1) Application in the garbage fly ash treatment industry
Fly ash is the residual material collected by the flue gas purification system of a garbage incineration plant and is classified as hazardous waste. Fly ash contains five common heavy metals that are most harmful to human health: lead, chromium, mercury, arsenic, and cadmium. If directly treated by landfill, it will cause serious pollution to surrounding soil and groundwater, ultimately affecting the human living environment. Fly ash treated with standard SDD content has significantly lower heavy metal content than the national standard and has reached the standard for landfilling of household waste.
(2) Application in the wastewater treatment industry
A large amount of industrial wastewater containing heavy metal ions is generated in chemical industries such as electroplating metals and electrolytic manganese. If these industrial wastewater cannot be treated to meet the standards, it will also cause serious environmental pollution. Industrial wastewater treated with appropriate amounts of SDD has reached the discharge standard for electroplating industry wastewater, effectively reducing the pollution of industrial wastewater to the environment.
